Our ERASMUS student, Giulia Botti, has finished her internship and has gone back to Bologna, Italy. Giulia will soon submit her master thesis based on her results.
Our postdoc, Torcato Martins, and his wife, Filipa, has had a baby, Miguel Torcato. Congratulations!
Our PhD student, Francesco Meghini, has successfully submitted his PhD thesis. The thesis includes the results that we published in our recent paper with him as one of the first authors. Francesco will be back to the lab, while getting ready for his viva. Well done and good luck, Fra!
Our research paper has been published in Nature Communications. We would like to congratulate all the authors, especially, the leading authors: Francesco, Torcato and Xavier.
We celebrated the publication of our new research paper and the submission of Yuu’s preliminary application for CRUK Senior Cancer Research Fellowship at d’Arry’s restaurant. We were supposed to take a photo with nice dishes. However, as they looked so nice that we could not wait… this was taken after the meal.
As part of our lab’s outreach activity, Yuu Kimata gave a lecture to students from Sendai Daiichi High School in Japan. He talked about our research and his experience of studying and working in the UK.
Together with his Japanese colleagues, Yuu Kimata took part in the UCL-Japan Young Challenge Programme by organising lectures and a workshop in Cambridge. The keynote speaker, Prof. Tom Blundell from the Department of Biochemistry, talked about his career and his passion for music, travel and science. Students from Yuu’s alma mater, Asahigaoka High School, visited our department. Yuu gave them a tour of the department and also, with Dr Fumiaki Imamura from the MRC Epidemiology Unit, gave lectures on research.
